What Is Jelqing and Does It Actually Work?

Jelqing is an exercise where you massage your penis in order to stretch it naturally. But does it actually work? Learn all you need to know!

Keyword(s): jelqing

It’s not uncommon for men to be dissatisfied with the size of their penis. Even after consulting one of the many studies on the average penis size, many men tend to wish they were bigger (no matter how big they actually are).

It’s not uncommon for people to stumble on the technique of ‘jelqing’ when looking for ways to increase their size. But, does it even work?

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know.

So… What Is It?

The term ‘jelqing’ refers to a technique that involves massaging and stretching your penis in order to cause small, microscopic tears in the tissue. As the tissue heals, it can supposedly increase the length and thickness

While this makes sense in theory, it’s difficult to tell at first glance if this is actually worth your time (or even safe).

How Is It Done?

First, make a circle with your index finger and your thumb (similar to making the hand sign for ‘okay’).

Place your thumb and index finger around the base of your penis. Then, increase the tightness of these two fingers until you feel a mild squeeze.

Slowly slide your fingers upward on your penis until you reach the tip of the head. If you experience any pain at all, squeeze less tightly.

Let go once you reach this point.

Afterward, repeat this movement for approximately 15-20 minutes on a daily basis.

While lubricant is a great way to prevent chafing during jelqing, it can also cause overstimulation of your penis’s nerve endings. This could lead to you obtaining a painfully-stiff erection, which may cause significant discomfort the longer you maintain it.

So, either use only a small amount of lubricant or loosen your grip if you choose not to use any at all.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

When you’ll begin to notice a difference in your penis size is highly variable on a handful of factors. These include:

  • How consistent you are with your routine
  • How tight your grip is
  • The length of your sessions
  • How your body responds to the exercise

Are There Any Dangers?

While jelqing isn’t dangerous in itself, anything that involves putting pressure on penis tissue has the potential to cause injury. Since this area of the body is so sensitive, even something as too tight of a grip could leave you with long-term pain.

Things to watch out for are:

  • Pain (both during and after the exercise)
  • Bruising or skin discoloration
  • Numbness
  • Difficulty maintaining an erection

If you’re worried you may have caused significant damage to your penis, it’s best to consult a medical professional as soon as you can.

Most Importantly, Does It Work?

The answer to this question is relatively complicated.

In truth, jelqing may work, but there aren’t studies that can explain why it will or won’t work for you. It may also not work in the way that you intend it to.

For example, your penis may become bruised and swell over time, effectively increasing its size. But, and increase in this scenario would be a superficial result of injury, making it dangerous to engage in long-term use of this exercise.

There are also studies that claim penis traction devices (which are used for elongating the penis over time) don’t provide a notable increase in length or girth. So, it’s unlikely that a simple stretching exercise would work for most people.

That being said, it’s not impossible for your body to respond to jelqing in a way that the exercise intends. After all, a brief search on the Internet about the term will likely lead to many anecdotes that have a positive outcome.

Are There Alternatives?

If jelqing doesn’t sound like it’d benefit you (or if you tried it and didn’t get the intended results), there are plenty of alternatives that you can try in order to increase both the length and girth of your penis.

It’s important to research an option you’re interested in before moving forward, though.

Unfortunately, there are many products and supplements for increasing penis size you can buy online that aren’t properly regulated. This means they could easily lead to injury and further health complications.

Something Else to Consider

It’s natural to want to be a dominant force in a room. Most men wish they were taller, broader, had a deeper voice, etc. So, it’s no surprise most men want a larger penis.

But, it’s important to realize why you want to increase your penis size in the first place.

If your measurements fall under the average (which lies somewhere around 5.5 inches for length and 4.7 inches for girth), it’s perfectly normal to feel this way.

But, if you want to increase your size so that you can feel ‘alpha’ or ‘dominant,’ then there may be a psychological issue at play here.

It’s also completely possible that you’re interpreting your average-sized penis as ‘small,’ which it wouldn’t be in this case since your measurements would be in the middle of the road.

So, keep these details in mind when looking for treatment.

Jelqing: Final Thoughts

With the above information about jelqing in mind, you’ll be well on your way to making the decision that’s best for you while staying safe in the future.
